Perfect Repeat?

Can Brady and the Patriots repeat their 18-1 perfect season?

It's almost time for Tom Brady and the Patriots to shuffle dejectedly onto the field again, and expectations are high. It's unlikely they will be able to match last year's Perfect Season, when they rode a pony express of lucky breaks and poor refereeing to an 18-0 record before losing the only game that means anything.

After the greatest choke in the history of professional sports, what do you do for an encore?

The Patriots could go two ways this season. They may try to match last year's epic fail by plowing through the weakest schedule in the league, setting up another Greek tragedy ending. Or they may try to build on last year's humiliating finale by piling up more losses.

The team's fortunes rest most heavily on Tom Brady, who has missed the entire preseason due to being too emo. Without Brady, the Patriots have looked like a highschool team from some state that doesn't even play football, like Canada. With him, they could return to their glory days of winning big until there's something on the line.

One thing is for sure, the worst possible outcome of this season would be an 8-8 record. Everyone loved to hate them when they were God's chosen team, and everyone cheered when God set them up for a biblical lesson on pride. That fascination will evaporate like urine in the desert if they turn into the Cardinals.
